PROFESSIONAL NANNY OF THE YEAR AWARD

Chiltern College Professional Nanny Conference 2010

On Saturday 18 September 2010, Chiltern College will be holding their annual conference for professional nannies. It’s a dedicated free conference where there will be speakers on nanny-related issues and childcare professional stands for delegates to visit.

Nannytax has been extremely proud to have sponsored the conference in the past and encourage nannies to try and attend. Please let your nannies know about the conference, it is a simply fantastic event that not only recognises the dedication and professionalism of nannies but offers a wealth of information and resources for those working in the industry.

Find out more about the Chiltern College Professional Nanny Conference 2010 at the Nannytax website where all contact details and a conference delegate application form to download are available.

In conjunction with the conference is the Voice Professional Nanny of the Year Award 2010. Nominations are currently being submitted for judging and this year, unlike previous years, nannies can nominate themselves. The award was introduced in 2004 and created to recognise the highly professional, important role nannies play in providing high quality, safe and flexible childcare to thousands of families throughout the UK. Nannies are often the invisible professionals and the aim of this award is to significantly raise the profile of professional nannies. Please encourage your nannies to enter to help to give them the recognition and prestige they so rightly deserve.

Closing date for entries is Saturday 31 July 2010 and the award presentation will take place at the Chiltern College Professional Nanny Conference on Saturday 18 September 2010.

Criteria applies for all nominees and you can find about more about the Voice Professional Nanny of the Year Award at the Nannytax website, where all contact details and an award nominee entry form to download are available.

ISA UPDATE - 'U'TURN

We have today received an e-mail from the Independent Safeguarding Authority to state that the ISA Registration Scheme that was due to commence on 26th July 2010 is being halted.

The new Government are holding a review of the scheme "to bring the regimes back to common sense levels".

What will the CRB/AccessNI be doing during the remodelling period?
During this process it will be business as usual for the CRB. Although the ISA Registration Scheme has been stopped, changes introduced in October 2009 are still in place. Organisations that are engaging individuals to work in regulated activity with children or vulnerable adults should continue to use their existing safeguarding practices, including the use of enhanced CRB disclosures where these are required by law or regarded as appropriate by employers.
Continued Safeguarding
Whilst the Scheme is being remodelled existing safeguarding regulations remain in force and should be adhered to. The following changes came into effect from 12th October 2009.
• it is now a criminal offence for barred individuals to apply to work with children or vulnerable adults in a wider range of posts than previously. Employers also face criminal sanctions for knowingly employing a barred individual across a wider range of work;
• the previous barring lists have been replaced by two new barred lists administered by the ISA rather than several Government departments. Now, checks of these two lists can be made as part of an Enhanced CRB check;
• additional jobs and voluntary positions are covered by the new regulations, including moderators of children's internet chat rooms and large numbers of NHS and justice sector staff;
• employers, local authorities, professional regulators and inspection bodies are now under a duty to refer to the ISA any information about an individual where they consider them to have caused harm or pose a risk of harm to vulnerable groups, such as why they stopped, or considered stopping, an individual working with vulnerable groups.
